Safari Themed Kitchen Glass Splashback Installation
Back to BlogSometimes a standard printed image simply won’t do. When a client approached us with a vision for a safari-themed kitchen splashback, we knew this project would require something truly special – a completely bespoke artwork designed from scratch to complement their unique kitchen layout.
The Challenge
The kitchen presented an interesting layout with multiple sections: a hob area, a central pillar, and a larger expanse of wall. The client wanted a cohesive safari scene that would flow naturally across all three areas, each section telling part of the story.
Using a standard catalogue image wasn’t an option. Pre-made prints rarely account for kitchen-specific obstacles like pillars, varying widths, and the placement of hobs and sockets. The result would have been awkward cropping, misaligned elements, and a scene that felt disjointed rather than immersive.
Our Approach: Design from the Ground Up
We took a completely different approach – designing the entire artwork ourselves, tailored specifically to this kitchen’s dimensions and layout.
The design concept:
- Hob section – An African savanna scene with wildlife and golden grasslands, drawing the eye as the central cooking area
- Pillar area – A natural transition into water, creating a seamless flow between the two main sections
- Larger wall section – An expanded scene designed to suit the wider proportions, continuing the safari narrative
By designing each panel as part of a unified composition, the artwork flows naturally around the kitchen’s architecture rather than fighting against it.
Why Custom Design Beats Catalogue Prints
With printed glass splashbacks, the options can feel limiting if you’re relying on pre-made images. Common issues include:
- Images that don’t fit your exact dimensions
- Important elements getting cut off or awkwardly positioned
- Resolution problems when scaling images up or down
- Designs that clash with your kitchen’s colour scheme
- Multiple panels that don’t align properly
A well thought-out custom design eliminates all of these problems. Every element is positioned intentionally, colours are matched to your space, and the artwork is created at the exact resolution needed for crisp, stunning results.
A bespoke design provides a cutting-edge, timeless artwork that transforms your kitchen into something truly unique.
The Collaboration Process
This project was a true collaboration between our design team and the client. Here’s how we approached it:
- Initial consultation – Understanding the client’s vision, preferred colours, and the atmosphere they wanted to create
- Site measurements – Precise measurements of every section, noting obstacles and focal points
- Design mockups – Creating the initial artwork and presenting it overlaid on photos of the kitchen
- Revisions – Making amendments based on client feedback until every detail was perfect
- Manufacture – Printing onto toughened glass with UV-resistant inks for lasting colour
- Installation – Precise fitting to ensure seamless alignment across all panels
The Result
The finished installation transforms this kitchen into an immersive experience. The safari scene wraps around the space, creating depth and visual interest that a plain coloured splashback simply couldn’t achieve.
What makes it special is the seamless flow between panels. The savanna transitions naturally into water at the pillar, and the composition feels intentional rather than pieced together. It’s artwork designed specifically for this space – and it shows.
