Bespoke Gym Mirrors with Brass Framework: Kensington Project
Back to BlogWhen Millier London approached us to create gym mirrors for a private residence in Kensington, the brief went far beyond a standard mirrored wall. The client wanted something that would blend seamlessly with the property’s refined interior – a design that felt both modern and timeless.
The solution? A bespoke brass framework design that transforms functional gym mirrors into an architectural feature.
The Brief
Full-wall gym mirrors typically present a challenge: how do you cover the joints between panels without compromising the aesthetic? Standard solutions often involve simple aluminium strips or leaving visible silicone joints – neither of which suited this high-end Kensington residence.
The client wanted:
- Full wall mirror coverage for the home gym
- A design that complemented the property’s traditional elements
- Joints that became a feature rather than an eyesore
- A unique, custom appearance
Our Design Approach
Instead of the standard equal-split mirror layout, we worked closely with the client and Millier London to develop something more sophisticated. The design incorporated both horizontal and vertical splits, with vertical divisions positioned near the top of the wall to create visual interest and proportion.
Every visible joint would be covered with bespoke brass banding – not as an afterthought, but as an integral part of the design. The brass profiles would frame the mirror panels, creating a grid-like pattern that references traditional panelled walls while maintaining a clean, contemporary feel.
Precision Manufacturing
The brass banding demanded exceptional precision. Every profile had to be:
- Cut to exact lengths – Any discrepancy would be immediately visible
- Carefully processed – Edges finished to prevent any sharpness or imperfection
- Consistently finished – The brass colour and sheen had to match across all pieces
- Placed with millimetre accuracy – Alignment was critical for the design to work
The mirror panels themselves were manufactured to precise dimensions to ensure the brass framework would align perfectly. There’s no room for adjustment once you’re working with fixed brass profiles – everything had to be right first time.
Installation
Installing mirrored walls requires care at the best of times – mirrors show every imperfection. Add bespoke brass banding that must align perfectly, and the stakes rise considerably.
Our installation team worked methodically, ensuring each mirror panel was positioned precisely before securing the brass profiles. The horizontal and vertical bands had to meet at perfect right angles, creating clean intersections throughout the design.
The Result
The finished installation is simple yet stunningly unique. What could have been a plain gym mirror wall has become an architectural feature that elevates the entire space.
The brass framework brings traditional elegance – a nod to the panelled walls and brass fixtures found throughout classic London townhouses – while the clean lines and mirrored surfaces keep the design firmly contemporary.
A simply beautiful installation that proves gym mirrors don’t have to be purely functional – they can be a design statement in their own right.
